What went down at our latest #StandTall event, Empowering Women in Tech & Business

Another incredible group of women joined us for our fourth #StandTall event to listen, learn and be inspired by our panel of thought leaders – Jodie Auster (GM of UberEATS, Melbourne), Lauren Silvers (Cofounder & CEO of Glamazon), Sascha Gray (GM of HIRED) and Michelle Nazzari (Founder & CEO of Fonzarelli Bikes).

Hosted by co-founder of Poppy Renegade and founder of Tech Ready for Women and Hatching Lab, Christie Whitehill, shared the story of how us five women came about to create Poppy Renegade as a space and community that encouraged women to share struggles and celebrate successes.

What: A mix of inspiration, networking and FUN. It’s been so fantastic to see many familiar faces as well as meet some new ones at this event where we heard from four motivating and informative panelists.

Where: All 120 of us met at UBER Australia’s HQ in Sydney – an epic space which hosted a mix of tech lovers, entrepreneurs, creatives, mothers, corporates and those looking for the tools to take their career to the next level.

What we did: The evening began with a much-needed meditation (thank you Alisha Jane Coon, you calming guru you!). Then we heard words of wisdom from Christine Rodrigues from Braintree, Bianca Monley from Eat Fit Food and of course our amazing panellists. We obviously ate and drank and, to encourage networking, our guests engaged in a game of  Poppy Bingo where two lucky winners walked away with a yoga mat from UNIT NINE valued at $115.

We were also thrilled to announce we’re HIRING and looking for someone who can help take Poppy to the next level. Which you can find out more here.

We ate: A delicious selection of chicken, salmon and vegetarian meals made fresh from Eat Fit Food, plus raw treats for something sweet.

We drank: Veuve Clicquot, Santa Vittoria water and fresh juices from Eat Fit Food.

Guests left with: A smile, inspiration, motivation, a clear vision… and gifts from our friends at WotNot, Nuts About, Thankyou., Universal Pictures, Philosophy  and Revlon.

Jodie Auster, GM of UberEATS, Melbourne
UberEATS is an on-demand food delivery network, powered by Uber. Jodie started her professional career as an Emergency doctor where she learned the art of hypothesis driven problem solving and triage. After completing her MBA at Melbourne Business School, Jodie spent two years at Bain & Company building her business foundation. She fell in love with start up life as GM Operations at Scoopon, before moving to San Francisco in early 2013 to be at the heart of tech innovation in Silicon Valley. At UberEATS, Jodie feels lucky to work on the complex operational challenges of a three sided marketplace, as well as building and motivating teams of exceptionally talented people. She enjoys the immense pace of growth and change at Uber, and the constant internal reflection and drive the company has to be an inspiring place to work.

Lauren Silvers, Cofounder & CEO of Glamazon

Lauren’s fast-paced lifestyle and constant desire to look polished for her job became the catalyst to the conception of Glamazon in 2016 – Australia’s first real-time booking platform for beauty consumers, salons and freelance stylists to connect through an app which has since attracted more than 10,000 active consumers and 3 000 freelance stylists. Lauren recently featured on Ten’s Shark Tank, delivering “the most perfect presentation I’ve ever heard,” according to Shark, Steve Baxter, securing $250,000.

Sascha Gray, GM of HIRED in Australia & NZ

With 550 companies and 17,500 candidates already on the network locally – HIRED is the fastest growing company ever founded in the recruiting world. For over 13-years, Sascha has been playing in the recruitment space, helping candidates find their dream job and organisations build high performing teams.

Michelle Nazzari, Founder & CEO of Fonzarelli Bikes

This entrepreneur has an intimate knowledge in all aspects of her two wheel scooter and motorcycle company from product development to production, sales and marketing to legal – Michelle believes this approach is critical in the early stages of startup success and will share her knowledge with us. Fonzarelli now has the highest number of electric scooter/motorcycle sales in Australia and recently launched into the New Zealand market.
